April 4 Action: An Opportunity to Stand Up for Those Who Stand Up for Us
On April 4 actions will take place throughout Local 5’s jurisdiction to support public sector workers in Wisconsin and other Midwest states who are taking on the fight to save middle class America. The 4th is also the anniversary of the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. who was killed fighting for the rights of Memphis sanitation workers to form a union.
In the Midwest several Governors have launched misguided attempts to take away the rights of unions to bargain contracts on behalf of their members. This is the same principle as allowing Safeway to tear up the contract and handing them the ability to pay whatever wages and provide whatever, if any, health and welfare and pension they want. It is wrong and goes against fundamental American rights.
On April 4 join your fellow members, public sector workers and honor the memory of Dr. King by rallying to save middle class America!
